Delegate G. Glenn Oder, ASLA  

 

BIOGRAPHY


Glenn began dating Mary Bowen during high school and they married as they finished their college degrees. Married for 27 years, they are raising their three adult daughters, Amanda, Kristen, and Kathryn, all educated in Newport News Public Schools.

Glenn was elected to the 94th District in November, 2001. Glenn was immediately recognized as a leader in the 2nd largest freshman class in history when the class elected him as the class president.

Glenn services on the House Transportation, General Laws, and Counties, Cities and Towns committees in the House of Delegates. He also was appointed to the Hampton Roads Transit Authority and to the Speaker of the House's Transportation Reform Task Force.

Board Member, Sarah Bonwell Hudgins.

Principal Deputy Director of the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development; Gubernatorial Appointee by Governor James S. Gilmore, III, 1999-2001.

Treasurer, Newport News Republican City Committee and twice elected to the Executive Committee.

Republican precinct captain and longtime volunteer activist for Republicans such as the late Congressman Herb Bateman, Senator Marty Williams, Senator George Allen, Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis and for numerous local elections.

Vice President and Director of Development, Harrison and Lear, Inc., 1987-1999.

Commissioner, City of Newport News Planning Commission from 1994 to 1999.

1998 President, Peninsula Housing and Builders Association and former member of the Towne Creek Homeowners Association, The Running Man Community Association, and the Victory Industrial Park Property Owners Association.

Past Chairman, Peninsula Youth Focus.

Glenn and his family are active members at First Baptist Church in Newport News. Glenn is the former Director of the Discipleship Program Committee, a substitute Sunday School teacher, a leader on the Site Plan Study Committee, and currently serves as deacon.
